Procedure for hair transplant

 

The persons who are facing the problem of hair loss, thinning or balding can restore their hair by undergoing the procedure for hair transplant. Having a natural look at any age is the desire of every person in this world. But unfortunately, baldness is one of the obstacles for some people. These usually include those persons who have received baldness genes from their parents. The problem of baldness not only affects men but also females are facing this problem. The baldness, although a genetic trait but a percentage of women who are also in the affected individuals. Men receiving only one gene from their parents will be bald usually after the age of 30 years. While females will suffer this genetic baldness only if she is the recipient of both baldness genes from her parents. These cases are usually rare. There are many available procedures for hair transplant. These range from old to modern techniques. The treatments include Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT), Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), Hybrid, Robotic, Laser and Neograft procedure. All of the mentioned treatments vary a little bit but the results are the restoration of hair which gives the natural look to a person according to his desire. Before undergoing the treatment, the physician examines whether the person is eligible for undergoing the treatment or not. He may examine that if there are enough donor sites available to be grafted to the recipient site. Further, the physician may ask the patient to follow some precautionary measures before undergoing the treatment. The physician usually recommends avoiding smoking. He should not use alcohol usually a few weeks before surgery. In case of other medicine usages like blood thinners, taking should be stopped. Just before surgery, the physician gives the local anaesthesia to the person’s scalp and then undergoes one of the procedures for hair restoration.

In following the FUT procedure for hair transplant the physician usually cuts the strip of skin from the backside of the scalp. The donor area may be beard or chest hair in the case of males while in the case of females; the donor site is only the backside of the scalp. The donor site is then sealed with the help of stitches. Then the physician grafts it to the recipient area which is the bald area of the scalp. In FUE, the physician cuts the follicles instead of skin strips, separates these follicles and then makes the small incisions at the recipient site and then implants these separated follicles on the recipient area. In the Hybrid technique, the FUT and FUE are performed together in a single session of surgery. The physician cuts the strip and then separates the follicles from it. Then using microneedles the small incisions are made and then implants these follicles using FUE techniques. In the Robotic type of transplant, the ARTAS system of robots first detects the donor site and then with the help of Algorithms and software estimates the follicles to be moved. After obtaining from the donor site, the follicles are just separated using algorithms and then implanted to the recipient site. In the Neograft procedure, an instrument wand is used to take follicles from the donor to the recipient site and also to insert them in the recipient site. This treatment uses the vacuum creation technique.

The procedure for hair transplant is usually beneficial. But some treatments may have some side effects. As in the case of FUT, the linear scar is made on the scalp. While other techniques are minimally invasive and do not leave the linear scar. There may be some itching, discomfort, swelling or minor bleeding problems. However, care must be taken after treatment to avoid any complications or other problems. Also, direct contact with things or direct exposure to sunlight must be avoided for a few days. The cost of these procedures for hair transplant depends upon the number of factors like the experience of the physician, the number of grafts to be moved, the geographical location of the clinic and the type of treatment to be undergone. The insurance companies do not accommodate these procedures and therefore, unfortunately, the patient has to pay the whole amount by himself.
